MDGs Young Social Entrepreneur, Male Category: This category recognizes a male personality who engages in business either in goods or services as a means of income generation without looking for job and he is flourishing. He should have used it to train and empower others {Not for profit basis}, thereby encouraging self sufficiency and job provision. For example; A consultant, A business shop owner e.t.c. Along with your entry form you will provide an explanation of your activities as well as your project brief and pictures.
2. MDGs Young Social Entrepreneur Female Category: This category recognizes a female personality who engages in business either in goods or services as a means of income generation without looking for job and she is flourishing. She should have used it to train and empower others {Not for profit basis}, thereby encouraging self sufficiency and job provision. For example; A caterer, A business shop owner e.t.c. 3. MDGs Young Farmer of the Year: This category recognizes a personality who engages in agricultural practices as a means of income generation and has used it to train and empower others for free, thereby encouraging self sufficiency and job provision. For example; A fish farmer, A poultry owner e.t.c. Along with your entry form you will provide an explanation of your activities as well as your project brief and pictures.
4. MDGs Reproductive Health Icon of the year: This category recognizes a personality who sees reproductive health issues as its focus in positively impacting people in their communities. For example; HIV/AIDS advocacy, sex education, teenage pregnancy prevention e.t.c. Along with your entry form you will provide an explanation of your activities as well as your project brief and pictures.
5. MDGs Community Development Icon of the year: This category recognizes a personality who sees community development activities as a passion and focus in positively impacting people in their communities. For example; facilitating or providing community development projects e.t.c. Along with your entry form you will provide an explanation of your activities as well as your project brief and pictures.
6. MDGs Caring for Special Needs {Physically Challenged} Icon of the year: This category recognizes a personality who sees caring for people with special needs as its focus in positively impacting them in their communities. For example; organizing developmental programs for the physically challenged e.t.c. Along with your entry form you will provide an explanation of your activities as well as your project brief and pictures.
7. MDGs Positive use of the Media {Advocacy}  Icon of the year [Radio and Tv categories}: This category recognizes a personality who has being using the media either Tv or Radio as a value Re-orientation tool to effect change and provide information and education about developmental related issues thereby positively impacting them in their communities. For example; Tv or Radio programs  to educate and inform e.t.c. Along with your entry form you will provide an explanation of your activities as well as your project brief and pictures.
8. MDGs Mother and Child Health Icon of the Year: This category recognizes a personality who sees provision of qualitative welfare to pregnant women and children in communities as its focus in positively improving maternal health and reducing child mortality in communities. For example; Support for pregnant women, children welfare support e.t.c. Along with your entry form you will provide an explanation of your activities as well as your project brief and pictures.
9. Motivating Parent of the Year {Either one or both {Father/Mother}: Going out of their way in providing sacrificial/Outstanding/Touching supports/assistance for their child/Children in dear times of health/Talent Challenges.
10.  Development Conscious Old Student Association of the Year: Through provision of structures/Facilities/Mentorship/Empowerment for their Alma-Ata

11. MDGs Advocate of the Year {2 Slots}: A youth corps member with outstanding MDGs related community development projects.

12. Environmental Friendly Outlet {Eatery/Hotel}: of the year: Ability to manage waste disposal, toilet, pollution and a good landscape

13. Young Talent of the Year {Primary and Secondary school categories}: A child’s ability to display exceptional/creative skills/talent that is so outstanding above her/his age range.

14. Honest Icon of the Year: A young person showing traits of integrity, trustworthiness and any known incidence of returning lost but found items.

15. Customer Friendly Staff of the Year {Eatery}: A young person showing traits of good customer relationship, someone who is pleasant, patient and has been able to go out of his/her way to make the customer fulfilled.

16. Green Friendly School of the Year: A school that has been able to manage effectively waste disposal, landscape, tree planting, sustainability and recycling

17. Socially Responsible Student Union Government of the Year: Through the provision of structures/facilities, maintaining peaceful administration, integrity/honest government and advocating constructively on behalf of students.

The Opportunity !

Many of the very financially poor desire to begin very small micro-businesses (microenterprises) to help provide the very basic needs of their families.  Many have some skills or a business idea, but lack the encouragement, business training and startup funding necessary to get a start and succeed.  Attempts of the financially poor to secure loans to begin a microenterprise (ME) are often refused by their local banks.  This formal financial sector has traditionally considered them a very financially poor risk.  They mistakenly believe the financially poor are unable to save and repay their loans.  Banks also consider their small loans to be too expensive to manage and therefore unprofitable.  As a result, many of the financially poor find no way out of their economic plight.  They find themselves going from one financial crisis to another.  In desperation many turn to moneylenders who charge very high interest (some 10 percent per day!).  In paying these exorbitant rates, the financially poor remain financially poor, passing this burden on to future generations.

The Program Training Target Audience and Objectives for  Micro Enterprises:

o   ROSCA

o   Revolving Loan or

o   SAIL Savings Group

       

The ME Trainers (using one of the above training series) will attract, encourage, and train the very financially poor in their community how to evaluate and develop their business idea into a microenterprise.  These financially poor must be:

1.       Economically active (able to handle money and are participating at some level in the local economy)

2.       Have a strong desire to begin their own microenterprise

3.       Possess a business idea and appropriate business character traits

4.       Be willing to agree to and follow the rules, guidelines and constitution of the local CHE ME program.

It is recognized that the above criteria will exclude many needy financially poor.  However, helping this segment of the financially poor (who have the desire, aptitude and a business idea) can be a great beginning by providing successes and models for others to follow.  Further, the  ME program encourages those that benefit from the  program to mentor and encourage other needy people in their community.  In addition, some will eventually be able to offer job opportunities to those that do not meet the above criteria.

Register from Now to February 4, 2010

Eligibility to Register to Vote

Section 2(1) of the Electoral Act 2002 says a person shall be qualified to register as a

voter if he/she:

• Is a citizen of Nigeria.
• Has attained the age of 18 years.
• Is ordinarily resident, works in, originates from, or is an indigene of the Local

Government Area or Ward covered by the registration centre.

• Presents himself/herself to the registration officers of the Commission for

registration as a voter within the period stipulated for the exercise.

• Is not subject to any legal incapacity to vote under any laws, rules or

regulations in force in Nigeria.

Note: It is therefore an offence for any citizen to register in more than one registration centre,

or to register more than once in any particular center.

 

(i)  How:  The eligible person physically presents himself to the official in-charge of the registration centre where he intends to register. The registering officer may demand from the applicant certain information necessary to determine his identity and eligibility. This is usually done through questioning. The officer, if satisfied by the information so provided, then enters the applicant’s names and other particulars in the specified form, issues a voter’s card to the registrant and marks his right thumb nail with indelible ink to prevent him from carrying out double or multiple registrations.

 

(ii)   When:  The procedure for enrolment in the voters roll as described above usually takes place within a specified period of time in the day for a prescribed number of days.

 

(iii)  Where:  The law allows any eligible citizen to register as a voter in a registration centre nearest to where he is ordinarily resident, works, originates from, in his Local Government Area, o at ward where that centre is located.  However, for purposes of convenience, an eligible citizen is always advised  to register at the centre that will be most easily accessible to him on the election day.  One normally votes where one registered.

Display of voters register for claims and objections:

The Commission, by notice is required which a copy of the voters register for each Local Government Area or Ward displayed for public scrutiny.  During this period, objections could be raised about a entries made in the voters roll, considered to be inappropriate or illegal, by interested members of the public.  Similarly, individuals or groups are free to make claims for  inclusion of certain information or names said to have been omitted or wrongly enter in the register of voters.

Such claims and objections are usually made through a procedure provided for by the Commission, which appoints Revision Officers to look into the merits or demerits of each complaint, with a view to effecting necessary corrections in the voters register.
